We are seeking a highly skilled network administrator with extensive knowledge and experience in VMware ESXi v5 or higher, enterprise-grade server hardware, enterprise class firewalls, LAN/WAN and VPN connectivity, Windows Server 2012 (including Active Directory), storage area networks (SAN) infrastructure, and network switches and VLANs. You will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing our client's IT network, providing continuous support, and ensuring network availability during emergencies.

  • Review and maintain up-to-date documentation of our client’s IT network;

  • Provide advice, recommendations, maintenance, support, and enhancement of the network;

  • Liaise with:

    • vendors and collaborate with them to identify potential network-related tools, request quotes, review options, and provide recommendations to the network infrastructure manager;

    • external organizations such as Shared Services Canada and the Treasury Board Secretariat to gather and communicate information and requirements.

  • Provide an in-person weekly status update to the network infrastructure manager on ongoing activities;

  • Develop, execute, and maintain a disaster recovery plan (DRP) to ensure continuity of access to our client network in case of a disaster;

  • Conduct research and maintain a virtual IT infrastructure environment;

  • Manage upgrade projects, including testing new technologies and evaluating their performance against stated objectives (VMware 6.7, Windows 2016/2019 servers, SANs, and VSANs or other distributed storage solutions);

  • Conduct virtual network administration, define and implement access control, and ensure employee group and account management operations;

  • Develop documentation on procedures and best practices;

  • Contribute to:

    • the development of operational policies, standards, practices, and procedures;

    • the development of user awareness, education, and training on assigned aspects of the virtual IT infrastructure.

  • Coordinate and execute activities related to the preparation and provisioning of patch management, updates, package deployment, workstation imaging, and centralized workstation configuration management;

  • Provide:

    • second- and third-level network technical support and troubleshooting services to our client's service desk and other internal requests;

    • technical expertise, support, and assistance to users to maintain the virtual IT infrastructure.

  • Perform related tasks and services as required by the network infrastructure manager;

  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility by working with a small internal team to occasionally perform additional tasks such as mobile device setup, MS Exchange administration, etc.

Does this sound like you?

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with VMware ESXi v5 or higher on enterprise-grade server hardware;

  • Strong experience with Windows Server 2012 (including Active Directory);

  • Expertise in rules and policies on enterprise-grade firewalls;

  • Proficiency in configuring LAN/WAN and VPN connectivity;

  • Knowledge of storage area networks (SAN) infrastructure;

  • Familiarity with network switches and VLANs;

  • Availability to provide continuous support, including being on call 24/7 to respond to emergencies;

  • Flexibility to provide support during weekends, evenings, and nights as required;

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, with the ability to provide some services in both official languages (English and French).
