06 Apr How Michael Gonçalves found the best of both worlds as an Oracle Functional Consultant with Alithya
With a degree in Software Engineering and several business and management classes from McGill University under his belt, Michael Gonçalves knew that he wanted to find a way to combine both of those passions. He started his career as an Oracle IT Project Manager for an international company and handled their Oracle projects and implementations for order management, financials, procurement, shipping, and production. Three and a half years ago, he became a consultant for Pro2P, a company acquired by Alithya in October of 2016. Michael has since worked on different projects with a variety of customers, facilitating their vision and their goals by recommending and implementing the right digital solutions.
Tailoring the right solutions for clients’ needs
“As a consultant, I must learn the client’s business, understand their day-to-day operations and their pain points. On some projects, I meet with executives to gain insight into their goals and objectives. I then turn to software developers and make customized solution recommendations based on my subject matter expertise. I have to both understand my clients’ business objectives, their challenges, and their industry and propose the most effective digital strategy. It really is the best of both worlds for me,” Michael explained.
A collaborative and supportive company culture
As the technology landscape shifts and evolves, Alithya strongly encourages its consultants to continue evolving, to take courses, to self-actualize, to acquire new certifications. Michael is no exception: “I receive great support from my superiors to diversify my projects and to collaborate with other consultants who might have a different perspective from working with other types of clients. The culture of meeting and cooperating with colleagues to brainstorm ideas and solutions is very strong in the Oracle division.”
Working with cutting edge technology
The latest change in the Oracle universe is the Cloud-based ERP solution, which Alithya has deployed for its own operations. “This new solution has a lower up-front cost and is much easier to implement, causing many businesses in Canada to begin the process of transitioning over. I look forward to implementing Oracle Cloud for our clients,” concluded Michael.
